Medieval Villages of Les Baux de Provence, Carrières de Lumière Immersive Experience & Saint-Rémy-de-Provence
Here is what's in store for you
Discover the essence of Provence on this full-day journey through history, immersive art, olive oil, and organic wine.
You will be picked up directly from your hotel, chambre d’hôte, villa, or apartment, and travel first to Les Baux-de-Provence, one of the region’s most spectacular hilltop villages, dramatically perched on an ancient rocky cliff. As you walk through its narrow cobbled streets lined with centuries-old stone houses, it becomes easy to understand why it is among the most visited villages in Provence. Your visit includes a guided exploration of the village and the impressive castle ruins, where the powerful Baux family ruled from the 9th century until 1426, before the village was integrated into Provence and later became part of France in 1481.
Just nearby, you will continue to the unforgettable Carrières de Lumières, a former 19th-century quarry once known as Les Grands Fonds. Reinvented in the 1960s thanks to the visionary Jean Cocteau, it is now home to Culturespaces’ immersive AMIEX® experience (Art, Music Immersive Experience), where masterpieces from world-famous painters come to life across 7,000 m² of limestone walls through an extraordinary blend of light, music, and movement.
After this visual and emotional highlight, you will head to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a charming town full of Provençal character, where you can enjoy time exploring its lively streets and gourmet food shops offering local specialties such as cheeses and olive oils. Here, you will taste exceptional olive oils at Domaine Jolibois, passionate producers based in the Baux-de-Provence Valley, whose estate-made oils perfectly embody the Provençal art of living — convivial, generous, and full of joie de vivre.
To end the day in the most relaxing way, you will enjoy a guided wine tasting at Domaine de la Vallongue, a magnificent 400-hectare estate nestled on the steep hillsides of the Alpilles near Eygalières and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The estate lies at the bottom of a long valley, the “Vallongue,” which was once the ancient Roman road linking Rome to Spain, and its vineyards stretch among pine trees, olive groves, forests, cliffs, and wild scrubland. Cultivated organically since 1985, this exceptional landscape gives the wines a distinctive personality, combining the scents of the surrounding garrigue with the mineral freshness of the limestone terroir of Les Baux-de-Provence, before your return at the end of the day.
