Vineyard Tasting with Amarone Cru and Local Foods at Tedeschi in Valpolicella
Here is what's in store for you
The Monte Olmi vineyard has belonged to the Tedeschi family since 1918. The grapes grown on its terraces, supported by traditional dry-stone walls, produce one of the first crus of Amarone della Valpolicella.
This experience begins where that story does: outdoors, among the vines. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by Valentina from the hospitality team or by a member of the Tedeschi family, Antonietta, Sabrina, Riccardo, or Enrico.
They will guide you on a walk up the Monte Olmi hillside, between the terraces held up by their dry-stone walls, known locally as 'marogne'. The walk to the Monte Olmi vineyard is easy, being about 10 minutes to the little vineyard chapel (130 meters above sea level).
Here, in the vineyard itself, you will taste the wine the plot is famous for: Capitel Monte Olmi, an Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva. This Riserva is made using the 'appassimento' method, with grapes dried for months before pressing, resulting in a powerful, deep wine with notes of dried fruit and spice. Tasting it on the soil where its grapes grow is the core of the experience.
Back at the winery, you will visit the cellar before sitting down in the tasting room for five more wines that map the rest of the territory. All are reds built on the Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes of Valpolicella, poured from lightest to fullest. The flight includes a Valpolicella DOC, the estate's fresh, everyday red; a Valpolicella Ripasso DOC, which gains body and depth from re-fermentation on Amarone skins; and two different single-vineyard Valpolicella Superiore crus, poured side-by-side so you can taste one hillside against the other.
The tasting concludes with the estate's other Amarone, the 'Marne 180' DOCG: a rich, full-bodied red defined by the concentration of the appassimento method.
A tasting board of local cow's-milk cheeses and pork salumi, chosen to complement the structure of the wines, is served alongside the tasting.
