Etna Wine Tasting of Nerello Mascalese with Pairings at Terrazze dell'Etna
Here is what's in store for you
Your experience at Terrazze dell'Etna takes place on the slopes of Mount Etna, in a restored 18th-century palmento, a traditional press house flanked by the 1981 lava flow. You will be welcomed by Roberta, a hospitality professional with a European WINTOUR Master's degree and WSET Level 2 certification.
The visit begins with a tour of the vineyards before moving to the tasting room. Here, you will explore two different expressions of Nerello Mascalese, the area's principal grape variety. You'll start with Ciuri IGT, a white wine made from Nerello Mascalese grapes, which reveals a fresh and aromatic side of the variety. You'll then taste Cratere IGT, a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Petit Verdot that combines its Etna origins with a more international character.
The two wines are served with a pairing of almonds, sun-dried tomatoes, and a selection of local cheeses, such as Caciotta dei Nebrodi. For children and youths, is a non-alcoholic drink and a dedicated snack provided. This 45-minute tasting offers a direct introduction to the volcanic terroir of Etna and the winemaking identity of Terrazze dell'Etna.
