Full-Day Armagnac Tour from Eauze: 3 Domaines & Lunch at the Medieval Village
Here is what's in store for you
On the first stop of the tour, you'll visit a third-generation Armagnac domain that is one of the most well-respected in the region. Here, you will tour the domain and learn from the producer how the grapes are grown, harvested, and distilled into Armagnac. You will then enjoy guided tasting of a variety of armagnacs and learn a few recipes to prepare specialty cocktails. Following this visit, the second stop will be at one of the oldest domaines in the region. The domaine comprises over 75 organic hectares and is composed of the four traditional Armagnac grape varieties. You will be given a tour and a guided tasting by the son, who is a fourth-generation Armagnac producer on the estate.
In the afternoon, you will journey to enjoy a set lunch at a restaurant that serves a modern interpretation of traditional food by a young, inspiring chef who is very enthusiastic and talented. The chef will prepare a special menu specifically for your visit, which will include appetizers, a choice of main entrée, a cheese course, and dessert. Over lunch, there is the option to be joined by a local sommelier, Claire Bortolussi from the Château de Viella, who will serve wine from her family’s Domain that has been especially selected to pair with each course. Claire is a fifth-generation winemaker from the Bortolussi family, a well-respected expert of the wines from Madiran, and she will be delighted to share her vast knowledge of the viticulture of Gascony with you.
Your third stop on the tour will be a Domaine that has been cultivating and distilling Armagnac for more than five generations, and the product is exceptional. In the cellar, we will enjoy a vertical tasting of several vintages, and savor the distinct nuances offered by each one. The Domain also produces Floc as well as a variety of wines, which are also available for tasting. There is an Armagnac museum on the property to explore and experience how it used to be produced in the 18th-19th century, and it is fascinating to discover how little has changed, even with the advent of technology.
