Private Tour of Val d'Orcia with Montepulciano Wine Tasting, from Florence
Here is what's in store for you
Your full-day tour begins in Florence, where your private driver will pick you up for the journey south into the Val d'Orcia. The route travels through the rolling hills of southern Tuscany, a landscape recognized for its distinctive cypress trees and countryside vistas.
The first stop is Montepulciano, a medieval town built on a limestone ridge. Here, you will have some free time to explore its streets before the wine tasting. The tasting takes place in a tasting room and includes at least three local wines, featuring the area's renowned Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, made from Sangiovese grapes. The wines are served with a selection of regional products, which may include cured meats like finocchiona or local cheeses such as Pecorino di Pienza, depending on the season.
The tour continues to Pienza, a town redesigned in the 15th century by Pope Pius II to be an ideal Renaissance city. You will have time to walk through its historic center, observing the classical architecture and planning principles that define its character. Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to stop for photos of the Val d'Orcia landscape before your driver returns you to Florence in the evening.
