Setúbal Wine Country: A Small-Group Day with Three Family Producers, from Lisbon
Here is what's in store for you
Most visitors to Lisbon never make it south to the Setúbal Peninsula, which is exactly why it rewards the ones who do. This is the home of Moscatel de Setúbal, one of the world's great fortified wines, alongside fresh whites grown on Atlantic-facing slopes and reds shaped by limestone and old vines.
This is a full day in a small group of seven at most, built for people who would rather go deep with the families than rush a checklist of estates. We meet in central Lisbon mid-morning and drive south together, welcomed at the gates by the families who farm and make the wine. Expect winemaker-led tastings of 10 or more wines, a proper walk through cellar and vineyard, and a long regional lunch matched to the glass, built on local cheeses, charcuterie and slow Portuguese cooking.
The estates rotate with the season, drawn from respected family names like Casa Ermelinda Freitas, Fernão Pó and Venâncio Costa Lima. You are hosted throughout by founder Nicola or a regional wine specialist, you buy any bottles you love at estate-floor prices, and you are back in Lisbon by early evening.
If you already know Douro and Alentejo, this is the region to add next.
