Winemaker's Workshop "The Secrets of Barrel Aging" at Château La Rose Monturon
Here is what's in store for you
Château La Rose Monturon offers a unique workshop dedicated to exploring the art of barrel aging. The experience begins with a brief introduction to the estate’s philosophy, followed by a guided visit to the barrel cellar.
Barrel aging is to wine what refinement is to cheese — it enhances structure, allowing primary aromas to evolve into more nuanced, secondary and tertiary notes. At Château La Rose Monturon, French oak barrels of various sizes and ages are used not to impart dominant woody flavors, but to allow controlled oxygenation through the wood's pores. This careful approach aims to elevate the wine without overwhelming its natural character.
Participants will have the opportunity to discover 4 to 6 different barrels, each contributing a unique expression to the aging process. The workshop concludes with a tasting of 4 bottled wines currently available for purchase, offering a complete perspective on the wine’s evolution from barrel to glass.
