The Douro Demarcated Region spreads along 250.000 hectares along the Douro River basin. A powerful river with 927 kms since its spring in Picos de Urbión until it meets the Atlantic Ocean in the city of Porto. In its way it passes by several wine regions, being the Douro Demarcated Region the most impressive with its deep valleys and narrow canyons. The soils are mainly derivative from schist, with a granite geologic formation in its borders. The region has very cold Winters and very hot and dry Summers. Due to the wide variety of micro-climates, the region is divided in 3 sub-regions that differ greatly from each other in terms of temperature, rainfall, dimension of the property, planted area, etc.: Baixo-Corgo, Cima-Corgo and Douro Superior.
The tour will start at our meeting point next to São Bento train station at 8:30 am, your first stop will be in Sabrosa. Visit a family winemaking company that embraced with passion the “Boutique Winery” concept. We proudly produce DOC Douro wines & premium Port Wines. Their wine production is based on the diversity of the Douro. A wide variety of grapes, different altitudes, different solar expositions, and soils with different compositions.
Lunch is included in this wine day tour and then you'll go to Quinta da Roeda or Quinta São Luiz for the second wine tasting experience. This Quinta’s are some of the Douro Valley’s finest vineyards and it represents the heart of the company’s greatest Ports. This properties are situated in the centre of the best wine-producing area, which offers an ideal balance for achieving great wines. A few steps away on Pinhão pier you Will embark on a sightseeing panoramic river cruise for 45 minutes on the traditional Rabelo Boat.
You'll then get back to the hotel with a much better understanding of this amazing Wine Region.
