Reserve Tour and Tasting at Burmester in Vila Nova de Gaia
Here is what's in store for you
This new stage of the Burmester Cellars combines centuries-old tradition and sophistication. The renovated cellar blends the authenticity of its heritage with a contemporary approach, featuring museum equipment specifically designed to enhance the elements and spaces of this historic cellar. The exhibition route combines original pieces with luminous, audiovisual, and interactive elements, providing an immersive experience that brings visitors closer to the history and legacy of the Burmester Cellars, as well as the world-renowned tradition of Port wine.
The immersion in the past is reinforced by the use of old photographs of the family and the city of Porto, carefully selected to come to life and transport visitors to another time. Sounds, images, and aromas recreate the atmosphere of the Douro Valley and the traditions linked to wine, awakening memories and sensations that connect the visitor to the landscape, the work in the vineyard, and the long maturation process.
The interpretive route addresses three fundamental questions for understanding Port wine and the relevance that the Burmester brand has achieved over almost three centuries: Who was this family? What is Port wine? How and where is it produced and aged? This structure allows for the articulation of a dynamic narrative, highlighting the original vocation of Port wine: to reach distant destinations with an internationally recognized character and personality, conferring upon it a unique identity resulting from a production and aging process designed to create a long-lasting and iconic wine.
The Burmester character was initiated in 1750 and remains alive to this day. The visitor thus has the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of these pioneering figures of one of the first recognized Designations of Origin in the world, through the legacy of a centuries-old wine house.
Led by an expert guide, you’ll explore the cellar and learn about the history of Burmester, the Douro DOC, and the traditional production process of Port wine. At the end of the tour, indulge in a guided tasting of two of Burmester’s most iconic Ports: Sotto Voce, paired with Beira Baixa cheese, and Jockey Club, paired with a traditional almond cookie (almendrado).
